The Partnership is so popular in Wöllstein that there is a waiting list of Wöllsteiners who want to host people from the Great Barford area..
Therefore, we pair up families and individuals in terms of profile and age. We stay with them and vice versa. The real benefit is you get to know well a specific family and we have many examples of these friendships being formed for life. Many of us are very close to our German friends and spend time with them outside of the partnership. The big question that we always get asked is how it works with the language barrier. The German grasp of English is of a high standard and modern technology does wonders facilitating communication. Also, good old fashioned learning key words and many many gestures more than bridge the language gap.
When they come here we will take our visitors on an organised day trip. For example we have been to Hampton Court, Sandringham and the seaside at Hunstanton. There is also an official dinner and the games evening with friendly rivalry. The winners get to keep the Edmund Petrie Trophy for the coming year. There is also free time to get to know your hosts/guests better.
When in Germany we spend time with our hosts and as a group (we are usually between 30 and 40 visiting) exploring the wine region, taking in many beautiful cities and countryside venues. Plenty of hospitality, parties, cultural and not so cultural trips. It really is a wonderful few days away.

Race Horse Night
We had packed house for Race Horse Night on Saturday 15th of October. Everybody was trying to get their horses to go faster than the others and the audience were cheering their favourites enthusiastically. We have included two videos here which show the buildup to the last event - The championship Stakes - in which all the individual jockeys compete. |
